Hamilton Gardens
Hamilton City is developing an outstanding garden attraction alongside a scenic stretch of the Waikato River. Stunning gardens, exotic pavilions, and shady walks, combined with constantly changing seasonal features have already made Hamilton Gardens the region's most popular visitor destination. Hamilton Gardens provides something for every gardening interest and inspiration even for those who just enjoy the relaxed surrounds and river walks. The most popular features are usually the Chinese, Japanese, English, Modernist, and Renaissance Gardens with specialist flower gardens, like the Rose Garden, featuring at different times of the year.

An on site Information Centre provides information on garden features and other local attractions.

Hamilton Gardens is located at the southern end of Hamilton City, just to the east of Cobham Bridge. Ample parking is accessible from State Highway 1. Entry is free and the Gardens are open during daylight hours.

Hamilton Zoo
Hamilton Zoo is set amongst 52 acres of magical serenity and is home to New Zealand and endangered wildlife from around the world. Follow beautiful walkways and explore the fascinating world of Hamilton Zoo,experience the wonder and excitement of wildlife. Wander through the Free Flight Aviary and watch as native birds take flight around you. The Aviary has been carefully landscaped to create a stunning forgotten forest, complete with valleys and waterfalls as they were before the arrival of man. Facilities include the Moa's Ark Cafe, bus and campervan parking, souvenir shop and wheelchair access.


Waikato Stadium
Waikato Stadium was developed in 2002. It is the premier sporting stadium in the Waikato, and is the home stadium for the Chiefs, the local francise for the Super 14 Rugby Competition. It is also the home of the Waikato Rugby Team often referred to as the Mooloo's. This purpose built stadium holds 25800 people and when all of the locals arrive at the stadium, visiting teams are intimidated by the constant ringing of cow bells symbolic of Waikato representative Sports Teams.


Balloons over Waikato
Visit Hamilton in April (during the festival week) and see Hot Air Balloons everywhere. Take off each morning from Innes Common (Hamilton Lake) and land wherever the wind takes them. Saturday Evening features a "Night Glow" at Waikato University. A Quality Event that no one should miss.


Waikato Museum of Art and History
Situated on the south end of Victoria Street, overlooking our magnificent Waikato River. Free admission, featuring the rich history of Hamilton and districts. Art Exhibitions are varied and changed regularly.

Waikato River
Meanders its way throughout our City and Region. Begins its journey at Taupo and makes its way to Port Waikato just south of Auckland. It is an important asset to the central North Island, providing electricity from numerous power schemes, and even providing drinking water for Auckland City.
